Insights in storytelling from master storyteller Guillermo Arriaga

Yesterday Guillermo Arriaga – Mexican screenwriter of Amores Perros - gave a master class at the University of Antwerp, together with Michaël Roskam, Belgian producer of Rundskop. It was a very inspiring talk. Some of Arriaga’s quotes:
'I hate research. I never know the end of my stories. If I would know everything of my characters, how would they be able to surprise me?'
'As an author you cannot discover all the worlds that are inside your work. The readers have to discover them.'
'When we tell stories in real live, we never do it linearly, it’s not natural.'
'Having an approach to death is a celebration of live'
'When you are slave of the socio-economic environment, imagination is the only way to escape from it.'
