Presenting my imagination coach... of 3 years old

My daughter Eleni and I visit regularly the open air sculpture museum Middelheim in Antwerp. The gardens are our playground where we discover, scroll and get surprised. The last weekend of May several artists created a performance at Middelheim Museum, among them Roman Signer. On a large field of grass the artist built a kind of ski jump with at the bottom a rectangular concrete cave. An elevator moved the artist to the top of the ski jump, together with a blue iron drum filled with water. Then he pushed the drum downwards, over the ski jump. It smashed against the concrete wall. Eleni and I were watching the performance called 'Bidon Bleu', as part of a big crowd. The piece lasted less than a minute. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed. I hadn't experienced a particular emotion. Eleni had liked it, she told me. After several days Eleni and I were watching a video of the performance. Eleni was completely impressed, she asked me to play the video over and over again. That day we were playing with wooden blocks and a yo-yo. I got the idea to build a kind of ski jump, as the one of Roman Signer. We used a small shelf, built a wall of wooden blocks and the yo-yo served as drum. It was a wonderful experience. The yo-yo hitting the wall and destroying it constituted a real emotional breakthrough. In normal life a father has to teach his child. Now Eleni teaches me how to experience art. Try it, open yourself to the wonderful world of children's imagination and be willing to get surprised.
